Pindad SS2 - Indonesian Assault Rifle

Pindad SS2
The SS2 (short for Indonesian: Senapan Serbu 2, "Assault Rifle 2") is an updated version of the Pindad SS1 created by PT Pindad, under license from Fabrique Nationale. It had been seen during the ASEAN Army Rifles contest by foreign media in 2006 aside from exposure by local Indonesian media.

Production
The SS2 has been first ordered by the Indonesian military back in 2002 and in 2003. It had then been announced that the rifle was launched in 2005. 150 SS2-V4s were purchased in 2007.

Design
The SS2's flashhider is based on the Colt M16A2 with the front sight being based on the AK rifles. The carrying handle and detachable rear sight is placed on top of Picatinny railings.

Service Use
Aside from its use by various Indonesian security forces after the Indonesian Army placed an order of 15,000 SS2s to replace their stock of SS1s back in 2005 with an additional order of 10,000 SS2s in 2006, Bangladesh has expressed some interests in acquiring the SS2 after a delegation had visited the PT Pindad office and its facilities in Indonesia.
